Around the bands with Stuie VK8NSB

Last Month I talked about DX Clusters and how they can help Dxers find and work that rare DX around the bands.
This month I will talk about DX News sites online that can help you find what rare DX is planned in the future, both DXCC and IOTA’s.
There are quite a few online that are free and some that do cost a small subscription fee. The two main sites I use are free.

First is DX world www.dx-world.net this site has a wealth of information about up and coming DXCC or
IOTA. Col (MM0NDX) keeps this site up to date with the latest information for the Dx Chasers. He also releases a weekly DX Bulletin that can provide very useful information to you the Dxer.

My second DX News service which is a great tool is 425 DX News www.425dxn.org ,hosted by Mauro I1JQJ and his XYL Valeria IK1ADH. 425 DX News has been active since 11 May 1991 when the first edition was released. 425 DX News can be subscribed to also (I have been since Oct 93). I must admit I love the 425 Magazine as it provides very detailed information about the up and coming Dxpeditions and is very nice read indeed.

Another online site that most are already aware of is QRZ.COM, www.qrz.com. This site is great also as the Dxpeditioners themselves quite often place information directly onto the page and can do so while on the Dxpedition to update amateurs live with frequency and mode information. It is also very helpful for finding QSL information for the Dxpedition.

The bands have started to pick up over the weekend (17/18 Oct) 10m, 12m, 15m have opened up on SSB and CW, and I worked many stations on the Saturday night into Europe on 10m CW and SSB on both 15m and 20m. Well that’s it for another month. Take a look at the sites and of course get on air and have some fun. You never know who you will work on the bands.

See you next Month, 73, Stuie VK8NSB.
